Adam Forepaugh, 1831 - 1890. The most important Philadelphia circus personality - known to almost no one in his home city. Barnum's chief competitor (and sometime collaborator).

Dave Watt wrote stories about Forepaugh in the Janesville Daily Gazette paper in the teens and a few of them were reprinted in the "Circus Scrap Book" in the 1930's. The entire group of stories was then reprinted in the "Bandwagon" as " Sidelights on the Circus Business" from about 2000 to 2007 and gave a lot of insight into Forepaugh and his business which most of us had not seen before. I don't think history gives him a fair shake as he passes in 1890. To be noted, he did sell the boys from Baraboo their first rail cars and went out of way his way to help them get started with going from a wagon show to a railroad show. p.j.
