Castle had these framed in his garage, along with the blown-up size of his LIFE magazine cover. Some years before I knew him, he and Mary suffered a fire at their home on Peavy Road, and decades of his memorabilia were lost. Friends and fans nationwide sent him many replicas to help replace his memories.

Those who really knew Castle, or Hal Silvers on Seils-Sterling, would agree being called a Spanish wire wizard wouldn't have worked for him. The main portrait, and those of the tricks are derivatives of Con Colleano's act. In the second half of Castle's act he discarded his break-away tux, and finished in tights. He never wore the toreador pants, and alas, he also never achieved the forward somersault on the wire.
