Terrell Jacobs worked his Big Act on RBB in '39. The discussion continues on the number of cats he presented. In one photo, the count is determined to top at 35--if all the animals were in at the time it was snapped. Judy Jacobs Kaye told me her father carried 55 lions and tigers that year, and worked between 35 and 52, depending on the variables of a wild animal act understood only by trainers. I'm taking Judy's side. Some of Jacobs' wardrobe barely approximated that seen here--but he never sported a cape.

Remember, he lost a dozen or so cats on the train from Boston to Long Island City. Their shipping cages(crates) were wrapped too tightly with canvas, and they suffocated.

Yes, I read the death toll was at least 9 lions, maybe 12. The boys intended to protect them from cold drafts in transit, and as stated above, they overdid it, and sealed off all ventilation.
