I saw this on eBay and wondered if it might be your dad and if you'd be interested.

"Hamid-Morton Circus 1940. Bill Woodcock and Dee Aldritch in front of the pit show."

They do resemble each other a bit! Buckles

The Colonel worked as a side show ticket seller most of the time we were with Barnett/Wallace Bros. 1937-41. In those days I'm sure he was glad to get a job doing anything.

Side Show manager Chester Gregory making a bally. My dad would make second openings.

On Kelly-Miller in 1952 us ticket sellers would switch boxes every other day since people tend to walk toward the ticket box on the right.

My dad would help around the elephants when needed but I don't know why in this particular instance. Maybe Hamid had the X on the midway.

On the back of the portrait Tom Parkinson had made for the Billboard article, my dad wrote, "Student of Elephantology, Circus History and Side Show Oratory!"
But when his tombstone was made I opted for Lee Powell's more modest tribute.

G’day Buckles,

I received the attached photo from a friend and he was wondering about the name and location for this elephant? My guess is somewhere in California, but which zoo, time frame and name of the elephant I was wondering if you could post it on your Blog site to see if anyone had any idea?

Happy Days
