Circus Music #2

Victor Supplement, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Victor Supplement

The earliest Ringling-Barnum record I am aware of was released in 1930 on Victor’s “Black Seal” (“popular”) label. (The prestigious “Red Seal” label was reserved for artists like Caruso and Galli-Curci.) A full page in one of Victor’s monthly catalogue supplements was devoted to announcing it. “Memphis the Majestic” and “Circus Echoes” were contained on Side A, and a particularly good rendering of “Entry of the Gladiators” was contained on Side B.
