Casselly's Horses & Elephants (Horses #1)

Horses.1, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Good Afternoon Mr Woodcock

Here are some pictures from René, Alexia and Merry-Lu Casselly with
their Elephants and Horses at the 32nd Circus Festival in Monte-Carlo
in Jan.2008. They created 3 very nice acts for this edition and
received a Silver Clown for this "package". The Elephants are: Manbo
(25), Nanda (25), Kimba (19) and Tonga (18).

This most certainly is a world class act! The animals look spectacular and the routine has some very unique and well trained tricks in it.

It clearly defines the class of European circus art.

But lo and behold...did one of them "shiest" in the ring??

How utterly "American!"

Photos we've seen lately really make me miss the days when each new season saw great new acts from europe brought to us by irvin feld and johnny north. somehow i always thought that would be a ringling trademark forever. it's sad that we may never see the next charley baumann or the next cristianis or laNorma or pinito del oro or tonito or the new richters. thanks to this blog, we know there are still some terrific acts over there that do something more than motorcycle globes, bungees or hula hoops.

Henry: You forgot the "Silk Worms"!!!!

Nice routines, nice performers, but miles away from the class of Casartelli, Knie, Gruss or Togni.

Mr. De Ritis,
Where have you been? I have been biting my tongue. I have been trying to be charming until you got here. Still photo's can sure sometime flatter something. I saw the Gruss show in Paris, honestly do you feel it is what we have come to expect from that great horse trainer?

Henry Edgar,
I will go out on a limb, and suggest the same talent is available on our shores. It is a simple matter of finding it, and motivation it with something besides a "clown sandwich", which is inadequate cookhouse fare in anybody's book.

Anonymous Europe(I'm guessing here),
You are absolutley correct. In checking the MC Judging Rules and Guidelines handbook, under the section Ring Ettiquette, rule # 167 it clearly states: Any performer/actor or part thereof who "scheits" in the hallowed MC ring in an American fashion, as opposed to a European fashion, shall be penalize at the discression of the learned judges on deck.
Which probably explains the Pellogrinis getting gold. Although they deserved it, I'm sure the fact that they did not "scheit" in the sacred ring probably helped. Once you understand the rules, this thing is really fun.
