From Casey Cainan

benny micky stand, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Thought this picture fit the theme today, Julio Osorio with Mickey and Benny. Nanda and Ceasar in the background. 1995 on the King Royal lot, the males were all Busch Babies

Casey,
How many elephants were on King Royal in 1995 and do you have all the names? I only have 3 listed in 1994. Who was in charge?

As I recall Army McGuire trained these two punks.

I think Army did the training of Benny and Ceasar, Bela Tabak started the Mickey male, and Julio was brought in to finish him in 95. The 95 roster included Boo, Irene, Chrissy, Heather, Donna, Lisa, and Mickey. They had an elephant named Jenny there till about June, but she was shipped off (bum wheel). The elephants in this picture are Bill Swains' except Mickey from a visit in MN. Irene, Donna Heather and Lisa being the Great American herd, Chrissy from the Corona 5 act of Africans, and Boo. Julio and Michael Swain had the King Royal elephants in 95, and Adam Hill I believe had Lisa on the advance for the show.

Mr. Cline,
In 94' I think they had the same herd as 95', but they did send the Great American elephants out with Benjamin often. They had several captains on the show that year, I believe it was elephant training by democracy, which didn't give very good results.

casey,
you mentioned Minnesota, any way a finding a route for 95? i live in Duluth, Mn and I have have memories of a three ring tent show in my town. Going of the lot they played the tent couldn't have been much bigger than an 80 with three 40's and a herd of 4 asians..... would this me King Royal?? I also remember 5 cats in what looked to be a modified flatbed trailer. They had quite a menagerie, with a hippo, a giraffe, and 2 zebras, that i recall, however being only 7 in 1995, thats about all i recall.

Dan H,
Sounds about right, the Africans were probably off the lot somewhere else. As far as route, I wouldn't have a clue, I was on Culpepper at the time, and Mr. Davenport is not in the habit of giving any out, even when you are on the show. It's more of a "we will let you know where we're going tomorrow, tomorrow" type operation.
