This is the last Clyde Beatty arena, built in 1960, in DeLand, Florida, by Beatty-Cole show-welder Charlie Harris and company. When Beatty died, Dave Hoover acquired his equipment. Hubert Castle bought the arena for his house act. He removed the original rectangular frames, and replaced them with flats, as you see here. I worked in this arena for two years, deeply respectful of the privilege. The man door seen here, through which Mr. Beatty entered and exited his last 5 years, remained virtually untouched by Castle's renovation. Upon Castle's retirement, the cage went to Jon Zerbini.
