RBBB Hospital performance

This is a remarkable picture, taken in either 1948 or '49.
For many years while appearing in Madison Sq. Garden the Ringling Show would do a show for Belleview Hospital patients.
This is Hugo Schmitt's center ring act exiting with a walking long mount. The ramp in the foreground was used for the "leaps".

Hmmmm...more elephants in this ring than on the entire BLUE SHOW today. And from what I hear there are more AUDIENCE MEMBERS at this hospital show than there were at many performances in Madison Square Garden a few months ago.

Well that's just 'CRAZY!'

BTW The Red Show did one of the BEST shows in 75 for Vietnamese refugees at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. I have no idea how many kids and refugees were there but it was huge and wonderful. It was outside and we rounded up the audience by driving all over the camp in the clown car banging drums and blowing horns. It was like the Pied Piper.

The kids kept yelling "HEY" and we kept saying "WHAT!" over and over and over and over... Finally somebody explained to us that "HEY" was a Vietnamese word for clown or 'funny-man.'

Good Times!!!

Just a follow up on Belleview... my mother was a psyciatric tech. for 30+ years and worked in mental hospitals in PA and CA. I remember her talking about some wacky thing that was said or done at work that day and when I would ask "which patient was that?" she usually said "oh no dear, that was one of the doctors..."
