Sparks Circus 1920's/ Frank Phillips

Frank Phillips was a well knwn animal trainer, at one time he was in charge of the elephants with Downie Bros. Circus and later worked lions when at Jungleland in California. As compared with a horse, pigs, ponies and mules are pretty bright.
This picture was taken at the Sparks Show winter quarters in Macon, Ga. and Mr. Phillips is about to take this vehicle out for a spin.

Yes I even had a pig. Not my x. A real male pot belly pig. You can see him at Pig Pals web site. His name is Walter and he is beautiful. Retired and at hog heaven. He even has long black curly hair. Pigs are so smart they scare a person sometimes. Eloise Berchtold was my animal model and she is the only one to have as many different animals as me.

Frank Phillips was one of the best animal trainers in the world. He had certain style that could bring laughter to the audience. It's terrible that his talent wasn't realized until it was too late.

Frank Phillips was good but the best was Clyde Beatty. Beatty was in movies and could things that Phillips could only dream of. I have seen Beatty do things with animals that I thought were impossible. Nobody could handle animals like Beatty could. He was the best circus business period.
